About the position
What can you expect from the System Engineer position within Huisman?
As a System Engineer, you ensure that our product functions as an integrated whole, that the mechanical structure, hydraulic actuators, electrical power supply, and software control are properly aligned. Examples of such products include a knuckle boom crane, motion-compensated pile gripper, and cable-lay system.
What do we expect of you?
As a System Engineer, your focus is on integrated system design.
You will be responsible for:
- System design and engineering. This includes independently preparing engineering deliverables, ensuring safe and cost-effective system designs for both the client and the organisation, documenting and substantiating technical decisions, and bridging the gap between different technical disciplines (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems).
- Interdisciplinary collaboration. You will act as a sparring partner for other engineers during the various phases of engineering. You will define clear system interfaces, both internally (within the product) and externally (towards other systems), and balance proposed solutions across disciplines.
- Technical validation and analysis. You will validate designs against applicable standards and client requirements, and verify that the system performs as intended.
- Knowledge management and quality assurance. You will provide feedback on standards and actively contribute to their improvement.
- Designing and defining the overall system architecture.
- Identifying design or integration risks early and taking corrective measures.
- Creating technical documentation such as system overviews, interface descriptions, and test plans.
Wondering if you are 'equipped for impact'?
You are:
- Proactive and well-informed about the latest developments in your field;
- Highly skilled in both verbal and written communication;
- Experienced in working in a project-based environment, with clear communication and thorough documentation;
- A team player who thrives in multidisciplinary teams, but also works independently when required;
- Flexible and creative in finding solutions;
- Customer-focused and results-driven;
- Practically minded, accurate, and punctual.
You have:
- A Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline;
- At least 8 years’ experience in a similar role;
- Experience as a System Engineer in the offshore, maritime, or heavy steel construction sector;
- Strong systems thinking skills and the ability to shift seamlessly between detailed work and the bigger picture;
- The ability to operate across all engineering disciplines (multidisciplinary);
- Expertise in mechanics, combined with interdisciplinary knowledge of electronics, hydraulics, and software;
- A strong affinity with complex mechanical systems;
- The ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements and set clear priorities.
Some practical things we need you to have
- An EU passport/valid work permit for the Netherlands;
- A good command of the English (and preferably Dutch) language verbally and in writing.
What do we have to offer?
- An excellent benefits package tailored to your experience and education level;
- An international work environment;
- Various growth and development opportunities;
- Open, informal, no-nonsense culture with short communication lines.
